Edin Dzeko appointed as first UNICEF Ambassador in BiH

Apart from being a very successful sportsmen, widely recognised in the country and abroad, Edin Dzeko has demonstrated his strong personal commitment to children and young people, especially to the most vulnerable ones.

“Having been raised during the war, I know very well how childhood hampered by displacement, poverty, violence and fear looks like. Because of that, it is a great honor for me to support UNICEF  and to contribute to improve the lives of all those children who are still living in poverty, who are exposed to violence and whose rights to protection, health care and education are still being violated,” said Dzeko on this occasion. “I would like to tell all those who know me as a sportsman and a football player, that many important games are still ahead and that we can only win if we play together. If football is the most important “unimportant thing” in the world, then children’s rights are the most important. My main role will be to take any opportunity to remind people of that,” Dzeko quoted.

UNICEF Ambassadors are prominent individuals from the worlds of sports, arts, sciences, entertainment or other field of public life who expressed their desire to use their talent to contribute to improve the lives of children, women, youths and families.
They support UNICEF advocacy, fundraising and programme efforts and contribute to to communicate, especially to young people, the vision and values that guide UNICEF’s work.

As UNICEF's Ambassador, Edin Dzeko first contribution will be to promote the rights of every child to have a good start in life.
